Crab Masala

Ingredients

  • Jumbo lump crab cake from Costco
  • 1 large onion sliced thin
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp anise / fennel seeds
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 10 whole peppercorn
  • 1 piece of mace
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 tsp Eastern Fish Masala powders
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
  • 1 tsp tomato paste or 1 chopped tomato
  • Fresh or frozen grated coconut
  • Curry leaves

Method

  • Add two tablespoons of coconut oil to a pan and heat on medium high
  • Add cumin seeds, fennel seeds, cloves, peppercorns, & mace and roast for 5 mins on medium
  • Increase heat and add the onions and roast for 10 mins
  • Add ginger garlic paste and roast for another 5 – 10 mins
  • Add coriander powder and fish masala powders, lower heat to medium and cook till oil separates – 10 mins
  • Add tomato paste or chopped tomatoes and saute it all for the next 10 – 15 mins
  • Add grated coconut and saute for another 10 mins
  • Keep adding water per required consistency
  • Let it cool
  • Grind in food processor to a fine paste
  • Heat a little oil in a pan and toss in the curry leaves
  • Add the masala paste
  • Saute for 10 mins
  • Add the crab and stir it all together
  • Cook for another 10 mins
